How a repair goes

From your photos to a wall you can paint

It starts with a few photos. Snap the damage with a phone or a water bottle beside it, tell us where it is, and we measure and price the repair from the pictures. Your quote is itemized, so you can see exactly what is included before anything is scheduled.

On the day of the repair, the damage is opened up until only solid drywall is left, because loose paper and crumbled gypsum around a hole will crack later if they are covered over. The opening is cut square, a new piece of drywall goes in on backing so it sits flush and firm, and the seams are taped so the patch does not crack along its edges.

The finish is what makes a patch disappear. Joint compound goes on in thin coats, each one feathered a little wider than the last, and each coat dries before the next. Where the wall is textured, the texture is matched. The patch is sanded until you cannot feel the edge and then primed so paint soaks in evenly and the repair does not show through.

Good photos make for a better quote. Take one wide shot that shows the whole wall or ceiling so we can see the room and the finish, then one or two close shots of the damage itself. Light from the side, like a window or a lamp, shows the texture clearly. If the damage came from a leak, tell us whether the leak has already been fixed, because drywall should only be replaced once the area is dry. If anything is unclear from the photos, we ask before we quote.

Questions

How does a drywall patch get done?

The damaged area is opened up to find the full extent of the damage, then cut square to solid edges. A new piece of drywall goes in on backing so it sits flush, the seams are taped, and joint compound is built up in thin coats that get wider each time. Once it is dry it is sanded until you cannot feel the edge, then primed so paint goes on evenly.

Can you match my wall texture?

Yes. We match common finishes like smooth, orange peel and knockdown so the patch blends in once it is painted.

How do photo quotes work?

Take a few photos with a phone or water bottle next to the damage for scale. We measure from the photos and send you an itemized quote.

What areas do you serve?

We serve homes in Nashville, Franklin and Brentwood, across Davidson and Williamson County. If you are not sure we cover your street, include your ZIP code with your quote request.

Does water damaged drywall have to be replaced?

Drywall that is soft, swollen or crumbling has to be cut out and replaced once the leak is fixed and the area is dry. A light stain on firm drywall can often be sealed and painted instead.

Can you patch a ceiling without redoing the whole room?

Usually, yes. The damage is cut back to sound drywall, patched, and finished to match the ceiling around it, so only the damaged area is redone.

Will the patch show after I paint?

A patch that is feathered wide, sanded flat and primed takes paint the same way as the wall around it. Older paint can fade, so painting the whole wall gives the most even result.

Are you licensed and insured?
